ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ

 A paralegal is a legal assistant working in a law firm or within the legal environment more generally (for instance in banks, fiduciary services companies and the insurance sector). There is a huge employment demand for such workers on the island. The National Association of Licensed Paralegals in the UK provides our courses, all of which are fully recognized and supported by the Cyprus Paralegal Association.

The Level 2 in Cyprus Paralegal Studies - Basic Award is a short 12 week (once a week 2.5 hours lessons)  intensive course and serves as an introduction to Cyprus law, legal skills and professional standards.

The modules, in summary, are as follows: 

Module 1: The Cyprus Legal Environment: Aims of this module are to demonstrate an understanding of the nature and classification of law, to understand the sources of law in Cyprus, understand the Cypriot court system, the legal profession in Cyprus and ADR. Evaluated by 1 hour test. 

Module 2: Cyprus Paralegal Skills: Aims of the module are to understand legal communication skills – oral and written, understand professional standards in Cyprus, learn research skills and case reading and account keeping and marketing of law firms. Evaluated by project completed at home over 30 days. 

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching methods employed are PowerPoint presentation, lecture and group discussion. It is possible to complete by distance learning (note: attendance at the institute is required to complete module 1 test only).  

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT. 

There is no requirement of previous legal experience or law qualifications for admission to this course. 

THE QUALIFICATION

This course is accredited by the National Association of Licensed Paralegals (NALP) NALP is the only institution in the UK offering paralegal courses that is accredited by Ofqual. 

The student will gain, upon successful completion, an Award from the National Association of Licensed Paralegals. 

The program serves as the foundation upon which students can build upon their legal knowledge and skills and further their academic career by undertaking a Level 3 qualification in Paralegal Practice, should they choose to, or the Level 4 with the University of London.

Successful completion of the course will assist the student in finding an employed position in a law firm and will enable the student to progress on to the Level 3 Certificate in Paralegal Practice.
