ISO/IEC JTC 1- SC 42 is developing international standards that remove adoption barriers while addressing concerns enabling broad responsible adoption. There has never been a more relevant time for international standards development in the field of AI. Traditionally, AI had focused on large-scale problems that were either too hard or complex to solve with traditional methods. This is no longer the case. As the need for AI-based systems has grown exponentially over the years, the cutting-edge technology is finding more useful implementation in applications. But the barriers for its broad adoption, combined with a strong demand for global consensus, have now made the ecosystem more mature for standardization.
