ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ

Mediation is a flexible practice and process of negotiation in a relationship to resolve domestic and international disputes, conducted confidentially in which a trained neutral mediator actively assists people and/or organisations to work towards a negotiated agreement of a dispute which will result in a reduced cost and time between the parties involved.

The unforeseen challenges raised from Covid-19, could not leave unaffected the Mediation practice, since the need for social distancing moved the traditional in-person to remote/online Mediation.

Therefore, the need of the course is to extend mediators knowledge and improve the soft and technical skills to resolve disputes effectively and efficiently in a dynamic environment using online platforms such as zoom, Microsoft teams, Starleaf etc.

The course will enable learners to gain knowledge and to be able to demonstrate the core competencies necessary for mediating a dispute and to be able to transfer this knowledge to practice. This course further, enables learners to understand and to deal effectively and appropriately with issues and difficulties that may arise during mediation.

ΣΚΟΠΟΣ ΣΕΜΙΝΑΡΙΟΥ

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • List and addressing causes of tension.
  • Describe the characteristics of the mediator.
  • Describe the Mediation process.
  • Describe skills and tools used in mediation process.
  • Describe how mediation techniques can be used creatively and effectively to a range of mediation scenarios.
  • Identify the opportunities for mediation using the digital platforms to ensure social distancing in a post Covid-19 pandemic
  • Perform and settle disputes effectively – in days rather than months, saving vital management time.
  • Develop a framework for having better high-level difficult conversations.
  • Develop adeptness in the performance of the skills, competences and behaviours of a mediator
  • Develop skills to manage and work with high-level individuals.
  • Explain issues that may present during a mediation such as destructive behaviour, anger and provocation, power imbalances of parties engaging in the mediation process.
  • How to choose the Best technique to manage conflicts and resolve disputes.
  • Explain the main types of Mediation.
  • Explain how practice may differ from theory and the choices that a mediator might be expected to make.
  • Evaluate and apply the appropriate processes and procedures of the mediation framework to best fulfil the mediator’s role in accordance with best practice.
  • Evaluate and apply a given skill or technique as appropriate to the conflict and relationship dynamics presenting in role-plays that simulate different and uncertain, real-life scenarios.
  • Defend the Independence and impartiality of the Mediator.
  • Motivate other parties to collaborate positively to seek a resolution.
  • Justify the options that best meet the needs of the parties in mediation.
  • Appraise his or her own performance and behaviour as a mediator in a role-play in relation to prescribed core competencies of a mediator in the various phases of mediation, and the impact that this can have on the parties involved.

The participants will be split into a number of groups and be given mediation case studies and assigned roles.


Training Style 

The programme is designed to deliver knowledge and enhance participants’ skills via short lectures, case-studies, practical examples, real-life simulations. Most of the training will focus in assessing participants’ current strengths and weaknesses via formal assessment tools. Participants will also benefit from customised feedback at the end of the programme and take away the knowledge gained to be transferred at their workplace. Most of the training’s time will be invested in analysing a real-life case study that will help participants understand how to solve problems in similar occasions.

  

CPD Recognition 

This programme may be approved for up to 24 CPD units in Mediation. Eligibility criteria and CPD Units are verified directly by your association, regulator or other bodies which you hold membership.
