Payment Institutions (PIs) and Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs): An Introduction to the Regulatory Framework and Operations
- Χρηματοοικ. Ασφαλιστικά Τραπεζικά - Καινοτομία/ Start Ups
ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ
The Introduction of Directive (EU) 2015/2366 on payment services in the internal market (PSD2) aimed to foster a more harmonised payments framework, via increasing competition, promoting innovation, enhancing consumer protection and improving efficiency of the market. At the same time, the Electronic Money Directive (2009/110/EC), referred to as EMD2, sought to update the regulatory framework for electronic money services.
In Cyprus PSD2 was transposed into domestic law through The Provision and Use of Payment Services and Access to Payment Systems Law 31(I)/2018 which harmonised Cyprus’s national legislation with the requirements of PSD2, providing the framework for the regulation of payment services, the licensing and supervision of payment institutions, and the rights and obligations of payment service providers and users in Cyprus. EMD 2 was transposed into domestic law through The Electronic Money Law of 2012 (Law No. 81(I)/2012) and The Electronic Money Law (Amendment) of 2018.
This programme will, primarily, examine the basic provisions of these Directives and their practical application on the operations of Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs) and Payment Institutions (PIs).
